Building a Love for Music from the Start

At the Vienna Academy of Music and Arts, for children ages 4 and 5, we offer our Piano for Preschoolers program exclusively in a one-on-one setting. Through imaginative play, educational games, and our own carefully developed curriculum, students make a smooth transition into traditional piano study while receiving the individualized attention that young learners need. Because every child develops at a different pace, we believe personalized instruction is far more effective than traditional group piano lessons during these formative years. Many of our preschool students make remarkable progress. (See Ben L. below.

Meet Benjamin L. Click on Benjamin L.’s picture to hear him perform as a preschooler! Benjamin performed at the Vienna Academy of Music and Arts Piano Festival held at the Wolf Trap Center for Education this past spring. Remarkably, he also performed at the festival two years earlier. Benjamin reads all of his music, is developing strong sight-reading skills and learns scales. He successfully performed 10 memorized pieces for a judge at the National Piano Guild Auditions this past June. Benjamin’s progress reflects our commitment to providing individualized private instruction for preschool children. ⸻

Looking back- Ben, pictured here at four and a half years old, started in early childhood at the academy when he was two years old. He still plays piano to this day, but his main instrument is now trumpet. He is a masters student at the prestigious Colburn School of Music on full scholarship. He recently graduated from Rice University’s, Shephard School of Music, the most competitive trumpet studio in the country.

Here are two other students, LEO Dagliesh. and AVI Patel. The picture that highlights these videos is an old picture of them attending the same music class at the academy! We are so grateful for their accomplishments. These young men are such an important part of our academy’s legacy! The little girl with the two pigtails just graduated from TJ High School, she took lessons with us for many years. Maxine’s daughter Grace (see our about page), then a middle schooler, is assisting teacher in this picture. Sweet memories! She was then the babysitter of Zora who is now our assisting teacher!
